Bangladesh: Another Hindu family targeted amid nationwide violence

New Delhi: Violence by Islamist groups against the minority Hindu community continues unabated in Bangladesh. The latest such incident took place in Dumritola village of Pirojpur district in Barisal division when a mob set fire to the house of a person named Kanti Saha on December 27.
According to media reports, unidentified miscreants threw threw a piece of burning cloth inside the house, setting several rooms on fire. The incident comes in the wake of violent protests throughout Bangladesh following the killing of popular student leader Sharif Osman Bin Hadi. 

What happened after Hadi's killing?

Violent protests have rocked Bangladesh after Hadi was shot in the head by bike borne assailants in the capital Dhaka on December 12. A critically injured Hadi was flown to a hospital in Singapore where he died a couple of days later. 
Mobs set fire to the offices of top media houses Daily Star and Prothom Alo and engaged in widespread looting and arson. 

What is the condition of the Hindu minority?

A Hindu man named Dipu Chandra Das was beaten brutally before being set on fire in Mymensingh over blasphemy allegations. Another Hindu named Amrit Mondal was killed by a mob on Wednesday. 
An Islamist organization has reportedly issued a threat written in Bengali, accusing Hindus of acting against Islam and the Muslim community and declared that they “will not be spared" if they continue to do so.
