International News: Israel has now started moving forward towards its objective of capturing the whole of Gaza. The Israeli army has already captured 75 percent of Gaza; now the entire plan is ready to take control of the remaining Gaza. This is the area where displaced Gazans are living in a very dense population, and there is a lack of basic facilities. In the coming days, Israeli ground forces along with the Air Force will start moving towards new areas to increase pressure on Hamas.
IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir has revealed the scale of the ground forces involved in the new Gaza City operation. To control the 41-kilometer-long and 12-kilometer-wide Gaza, around one lakh Israeli soldiers will be deployed in the operation, i.e., 273 soldiers to capture one kilometer.
Before the plan was presented to the defense minister, it was decided that several brigade-sized combat teams comprising at least 80,000 troops would surround and occupy Gaza City to destroy Hamas' main terrorist infrastructure and key government symbols still under its control. "This is a comprehensive plan that will cost Hamas heavily but also poses a huge risk to IDF forces," said a military source familiar with preparations for the large-scale operation.
According to the Jerusalem Post, senior IDF officers have expressed concern that the capture of central areas of Gaza City and other locations could result in the IDF having to take direct responsibility for distributing humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population, unless most of them are relocated to the southern Gaza Strip.
Also, protests are being held across the country against this plan. Many Israelis say that doing so can put the lives of Israeli hostages at risk. The protesters demand that the Israeli government should stop the ceasefire and release the hostages.
