New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to Israel is expected to bring forward several crucial deals and agreements between the two countries. This will be the PM Modi's first visit to Israel in eight years. Major agreements are expected to be reached during this visit in the fields of defense, energy, and AI. Meanwhile, reports have emerged that Israel has offered to give India one of its fastest missile systems, the Golden Horizon. However, there has been no official confirmation from either Israel or India.

What is the Golden Horizon?

Israel, constantly engaged in a war with Hamas, has significantly strengthened its missile system. In this regard, it also began work on an air-launched ballistic missile system called the Golden Herozine, although official information on this system is very limited. According to leaked US documents, just before Israel's attack on Iran in October 2024, Israel was working on two systems: the Golden Horizon and the Rox. The Golden Horizon further enhances the strength of the Israeli Air Force. Its range is estimated to be between 1,500 and 2,000 kilometers. According to a reports, an expert stated that the missile system has such a range that Israeli aircraft can target Tehran without entering Iranian airspace. Some defense experts estimate that its effective range when fired from a fighter jet could be approximately 800 kilometers.

What benefits will India get?

The Indian Air Force (IAF) demonstrated its importance very well in the conflict with Pakistan. Indian missiles penetrated Pakistan and wreaked havoc. However, India is now moving forward to strengthen it even further. According to reports, the Golden Heroine can be deployed seamlessly with the Indian Air Force's (IAF) Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter jets. If India approves its purchase, it will enhance the Indian Air Force's (IAF) capabilities.

Why is the Golden Horizon so special?

According to defense experts, the Golden Horizon is capable of penetrating deep underground and heavily guarded structures. Designed to destroy Hamas's underground bases in Gaza, these missiles have served Israel well. After being launched from an aircraft, these missiles follow a high-altitude ballistic trajectory and then fall directly toward the target. In the final stage, their speed exceeds Mach 5, making them hypersonic. By comparison, India's BrahMos missile has a speed of Mach 2.8, which is nearly three times the speed of sound.
