Tehran: During the ongoing military campaign against Iran, Israel had prepared a very secret base in the desert area of western Iraq. According to reports, this base was being used for special forces, rescue teams and logistics support. From here the operations going on inside Iran were getting help.

How did this secret operation come to light?

It was reported that a local shepherd noticed suspicious helicopter activities in the area. After this the Iraqi army started reaching there for investigation. As soon as the soldiers moved towards that area, they were suddenly attacked.

According to local media reports, a convoy of Iraqi soldiers was fired upon heavily, killing one soldier and wounding two others.

Why did Israel build this base there?

According to reports, Israel feared that if its fighter planes were shot down during long-range air strikes inside Iran, the pilots could be trapped in enemy territory. For this reason, rescue teams and special forces were deployed there so that rescue operations could be carried out immediately if needed.

What connection did America have with this operation?

Initially, Iraq had expressed suspicion of America for this action and had also complained to the United Nations. But later it came to light that the American Army was not involved in this operation. According to reports, this entire action was taken by Israel at its own level.

However, an American F-15 aircraft crashed near Iran during the conflict. At that time Israel had offered help in the rescue of American pilots.

What did Iraq say about this action?

Iraqi officials described the operation as a violation of their sovereignty. Senior Iraqi Army officer Lieutenant General Qais al-Muhammadavi said that this action was taken without any permission and coordination.

After this, Iraq sent additional security forces to the area and started investigation. Officials found indications that highly trained military forces were active in the area.

Why is the desert of western Iraq considered so important?

The vast desert area of western Iraq has long been used for military operations. The population here is less and the areas are quite deserted. Even before this, America had used the same area for military operations during the 1991 and 2003 wars.
