What Israel’s Struggle Against Iranian Missiles Means for Regional Security

Once hailed as nearly impenetrable, Israel’s world-renowned Iron Dome defense system is now facing significant challenges against increasingly sophisticated Iranian missile attacks. While its interception success rate once stood at an impressive 90%, recent confrontations have seen this drop to 65%. Experts attribute this decline to both advancing missile technology and emerging strategic tactics employed by Iran, raising concerns about the future effectiveness of missile defense in the region.

World:Israeli's iron dome is considered to be the most modern and accurate air defense system in the world. Till now this system has been famous for the ability to destroy missiles and rockets left by enemy countries in the air. But after the recent missile attacks by Iran, the question has started to arise that whether this defense system was no longer effective as before?

Success rate declines

According to reports, the success rate of Iron Dome's missile intercept was around 90% earlier, but in recent attacks it has fallen to 65%. This decline is not only serious from the technical point of view, but also at the strategic level is the alarm bell for Israel's security system.

Iranian missile technology booms

Experts believe that Iran has made considerable progress in its missile technology over the years. Their missiles are now flying at low, low height and changing direction. This is making it difficult for Iron Dome to identify them and intercept in time.

The biggest challenge became a saturation attack

Iran is now using 'saturation attack' technology, with dozens of missiles left simultaneously. This causes the defense system overload and does not track and destroy all missiles on time. Iron Dome has a limited number of interceptor missiles, which have to be used carefully.

What are the defense experts saying?

According to military experts, Israel now needs to upgrade its defense system. Only iron dome is not enough to deal with saturation attack and new generation missiles. They will now have to move towards multi-layer air defense, including missiles of long range, mid range and short range.

Defense analyst Colonel Ajay Shukla says,

"Iron dome is still an effective system, but the technique of war is changing rapidly. It is not right to expect only one system. Iran's new missiles and drone technology are able to dodge it."

What are the options with Israel?

Israel is already working on its other defense systems such as David's Sling and Arrow System. These systems are capable of dealing with long distance missiles and ballistic weapons. Their role may increase further in the coming time. The decline in the capacity of iron dome is a serious warning for Israel. While this technology is still considered to be the best in the world, on the other hand the changing situation and the new strategy of opponents is making it ineffective. Israel will now have to further strengthen its defense network so that it can compete with all kinds of dangers.
