International News: Atulya Shekhar, a woman from Kerala’s Kollam district, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in her apartment in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE), where she lived with her husband Satish Shankar. Her death, discovered on Saturday, has sparked serious allegations from her family, who claim it to be a case of murder and sustained dowry harassment.

What Happened?

Atulya Shekhar married Satish Shankar in 2014 and moved with him to the UAE soon after. On July 20, her lifeless body was found in their apartment, sending shockwaves through her family in Kerala. Her death has prompted intense grief and suspicion among her relatives.

Mother Alleges Premeditated Murder

Atulya’s mother has alleged that her daughter was killed as part of a pre-planned conspiracy. She claimed that Satish strangled Atulya, kicked her in the abdomen, and struck her on the head with a plate on the night of July 18–19, resulting in her immediate death. The family further alleges that Atulya had been subjected to persistent dowry harassment since the wedding. They claim Satish received over 40 gold ornaments and a motorbike as part of the dowry.

Murder Case Registered, Investigation Underway

Sharjah authorities have registered a case against Satish Shankar under charges of murder and dowry-related harassment. An investigation is currently in progress, and the Indian embassy is said to be monitoring the case closely.

Husband Confesses: "Yes, I Hit Her..."

According to some media reports, Satish has admitted to physically assaulting Atulya. In his statement, he reportedly said, "She was mine, only mine." He further confessed to hitting her in a drunken state, claiming it was not a regular occurrence and that the incident happened “out of love.”

Counter-Allegations by Husband

Satish has also accused Atulya of emotionally and physically abusing him. He claimed she had anger management issues and would lose control during arguments. This tragic incident has once again drawn attention to the dangers of dowry harassment and domestic abuse within NRI (Non-Resident Indian) marriages. Atulya’s family has urged the Indian government and Ministry of External Affairs to intervene and ensure justice is served.
