North Korean leader Kim Yo Jong issued a strong statement criticizing the United States. Her comments came during a sensitive time when global tensions are already high. The statement was released shortly after the Freedom Shield military exercise began.
Kim Yo Jong warned that joint drills between the United States and South Korea are destabilizing the region. Without directly mentioning the Iran conflict she said wars are breaking out across different parts of the world. She accused the United States and its allies of acting like dangerous international bullies. According to her North Korea will take every necessary step to protect its security.
The Freedom Shield 2026 military exercise started on March 9. It will continue until March 19 across different parts of South Korea. Around eighteen thousand South Korean soldiers are participating in the drills. Thousands of American troops are also involved in the exercise. The operation includes computer based war simulations. It covers land air sea cyber and space warfare scenarios. In addition there are twenty two field training exercises taking place. The main command center for the drills is located at Camp Humphreys.
Kim Yo Jong delivered a clear warning in her statement. She said the exercises are happening while the global security system is weakening. According to her showing military strength near North Korea’s borders could lead to unimaginable consequences. She emphasized that North Korea will continue strengthening its military capabilities. The country will also expand its nuclear deterrence against external threats. Kim Yo Jong said enemies must repeatedly feel the devastating power that North Korea can unleash if provoked.
South Korea has also responded cautiously to the situation. President Lee Jae Myung acknowledged that some US missile defense systems could be moved to other regions. Reports suggested Patriot missile systems may be relocated for operations related to the Iran conflict. The South Korean government reportedly expressed concern about the move. However officials insisted the country’s defense against North Korea will remain strong. Seoul says it will continue maintaining readiness along the border.
North Korea has long viewed US South Korea joint exercises as rehearsal for invasion. Pyongyang regularly criticizes such military drills. Last week North Korea’s foreign ministry also condemned attacks on Iran. Leader Kim Jong Un has recently strengthened ties with Russia and China. Both North Korea and Iran have supported Russia during the Ukraine conflict. Because of these alliances tensions between global blocs are increasing.
North Korea’s strategy appears focused on strengthening its nuclear deterrence. The country believes military strength is necessary for survival. Analysts say Pyongyang does not want to face the same fate as other nations under international pressure. As a result weapons development programs are expanding rapidly. In response to the Freedom Shield exercise North Korea may conduct more missile tests. Such actions would further increase tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
Experts say the world is currently witnessing tension on multiple fronts. One major conflict is unfolding in the Middle East. At the same time concerns are growing in the Korean Peninsula. Kim Yo Jong’s statement highlights how these crises are becoming interconnected. Any new military move could escalate regional conflicts quickly. The warning from Pyongyang signals that North Korea will not tolerate security challenges. As global instability grows diplomatic efforts may become even more important.
