Mexico Train Bus Accident: A major road accident occurred northwest of Mexico City on Monday morning. A freight train hit a double-decker bus full of passengers, killing at least 10 people and seriously injuring 41. This tragic accident took place in an industrial area called Atlacomulco. It is about 130 kilometers away from Mexico City.
The local administration informed that relief and rescue operations are underway after the accident. Meanwhile, the state prosecutor's office has started investigating the case. After the accident, many parts of the bus were completely damaged and the CCTV footage of the incident is rapidly going viral on social media.
The video that surfaced on social media showed that the bus was slowly crossing the railway crossing amidst heavy traffic. Then suddenly a goods train coming at a high speed collided with the bus. The train pushed the bus badly and dragged it along with it for a long distance. The collision took place on the middle part of the bus due to which its upper part was completely broken.
According to Mexico's Civil Defense Agency, 10 people died and 41 were injured in the accident. The injured have been admitted to various nearby hospitals. According to people present at the scene, a large number of passengers were present in the bus at the time of the accident.
The bus company of the Herradura de Plata line involved in the accident has not yet made any official statement. Meanwhile, the train company Canadian Pacific Kansas City of Mexico has confirmed the accident and expressed condolences to the victims' families. The company said that its employees are present at the spot and are cooperating in the investigation.
According to the latest report of the Rail Transport Regulatory Agency, the number of accidents at grade-level crossings in Mexico is constantly increasing. While 602 accidents were recorded in 2020, this figure increased to 800 in 2022. Recently, last month 6 people were killed in a train collision in Guanajuato state. In 2019 also 9 people lost their lives in a similar accident in Queretaro state.
