Beijing: Amid rising tensions in West Asia, China on Friday advised its citizens to leave Iran "as soon as possible". China's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that external security threats in the region are rapidly increasing, requiring citizens to remain vigilant and evacuate to safety as soon as possible.
"Chinese citizens currently in Iran are advised to take security precautions and leave as soon as possible," the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement on social media.
This warning comes at a time when the United States has intensified its military activities in the Middle East, raising fears of a possible attack. The US has also authorized the withdrawal of non-essential embassy staff in Israel, further intensifying tensions in the region.
Meanwhile, a round of talks between Iran and the US, mediated by Oman, is being seen as a last-ditch effort to avert war. However, despite initial positive signs, Tehran has made it clear that any agreement will require Washington to abandon its "excessive demands."
China's Foreign Ministry has also advised its citizens to avoid travel to Iran for the time being. It has also assured that Chinese embassies and consulates in Iran and neighboring countries will provide all possible assistance in evacuating citizens if needed, whether through commercial flights or by land. Experts believe that such advisories indicate that the situation in the region could rapidly deteriorate, and the possibility of a major conflict cannot be ignored.
