Washington: The administration of US President Donald Trump has made a major revelation regarding the war with Iran. According to a report by 'The Independent', the US military utilized Elon Musk's chatbot, 'Grok', to launch thousands of missiles at Iran.

An uproar has started following this statement by a top Pentagon defense official. This is likely the first time the US has admitted to using Grok for assistance in warfare.

What does the report say?

According to the report, the Pentagon's Artificial Intelligence chief confirmed this while presenting arguments during a court case in the US. A lawsuit is currently underway against Musk's company, xAI, regarding allegations of pollution. In defending Musk's company in this matter, the Pentagon official signed an affidavit.
Cameron Stanley, a Pentagon digital and artificial intelligence official, stated that the continuous operation of this chatbot is a matter of national security. He described how the chatbot was recently used to launch missiles at 2,000 distinct targets within a 96-hour period during the conflict.

What are Elon Musk's AI aiding top-secret missions?

According to the Pentagon official, xAI's generative AI chatbot 'Grok' is among four AI models capable of handling various national security requirements. In the court filing, the official noted that the Pentagon relies heavily on specific xAI models. These models have been designed specifically for US security agencies.

Was AI used for targeting in Minab?

This revelation comes at a time when questions are being raised regarding the use of AI systems following a US attack on an Iranian school that resulted in the deaths of numerous children. Reports indicate that US forces were responsible for the attack on a girls' school in the Iranian city of Minab, which claimed the lives of at least 150 children. Some analysts believe that the Pentagon's AI-driven targeting lies behind the bombing of this school.
The use of AI in warfare is on the rise; the US is not the only country employing AI in conflict. The use of AI tools to gather intelligence and identify potential targets during military operations is rapidly increasing worldwide. The Israeli military also made extensive use of AI to locate Hamas leaders and hostages during the Gaza war.
