Ankara: Turkey claims that NATO's air defense system intercepted an Iranian missile heading towards it. The Turkish Defense Ministry stated that the missile was traveling through Iraqi and Syrian airspace and was approaching Turkish airspace. NATO's air defense system deployed in the eastern Mediterranean destroyed the Iranian ballistic missile. Turkey is a member of NATO, and the military alliance's air defenses shot down the missile. Turkey's Erdogan government has strongly objected.
This is the first time an Iranian missile has been fired at Turkey in the ongoing war between Iran, Israel, and the United States since Saturday. Turkey, Iran's neighbor to the northwest, is the latest country to be affected by this conflict. Several countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar, have already been affected by this conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel.
The Turkish Defense Ministry has reported that debris from an air defense missile intercepted by a ballistic missile fell in the Dörtyol district of Hatay Province in southeastern Turkey. No one was injured in the incident. The ministry expressed relief that there were no casualties.
Following the incident, Turkey stated that it advises all parties to refrain from taking steps that could further escalate the conflict in the region. The Turkish Defense Ministry also stated that it will continue to consult with NATO and other allies on this matter.
Turkey stated that it will take all necessary measures to protect its territory and airspace without hesitation. "We remind all parties that we reserve the right to respond to any hostile action against our country. Therefore, all parties should exercise restraint," the Turkish government said in a statement.
Iran was attacked by the US and Israel on Saturday. Subsequently, much of the region has been engulfed in this conflict. Iran has retaliated against attacks on its own, attacking US military bases in Arab countries. This conflict has affected much of the world.
