‘We Are One’: Mohan Bhagwat Highlights Bharat’s Unity in Diversity at US Event

New York: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat spoke on India's unity at the 'Universal Oneness Celebration' at Madison Square Garden in New York. He said that in America there is talk of 'Pluralism', but India's identity is 'unity in diversity'. Both unity and diversity are in the DNA of the people of India.

What did he say on India's diversity?

Bhagwat said that India's diversity is not just different languages, religions or clothes, there is a feeling of unity behind it. It is important to celebrate and respect diversity. Referring to Swami Vivekananda, he said that every country has a mission, and India's mission is to tell the world that there can be unity even in diversity.

Is diversity the strength of India?

He said that people may be different in religion, language, dress, but from inside everyone is connected. He described humanity as the beads of a rosary, which is joined by a thread. Along with accepting diversity, belonging to each other is also important.

What did you appeal to the Indians living in America?

Bhagwat said that for the Indians living in America, America is the 'land of work' and India is the 'birthland'. Be loyal to your work, fulfill your responsibilities and then contribute to your motherland India.

What did he say on money and success?

He said that only money and material comforts do not give happiness in the long run. Giving the example of a doughnut, he said that even getting too much of something does not give satisfaction, the direction of thinking matters.

What was the difference between a human being and an animal?

Bhagwat said that humans have the power to think and understand. If someone is eating food and there is a hungry person sitting in front of him, then the person will not be able to eat the food alone after seeing him. This is humanity's to understand the pain of others.

Did he emphasise the unity of all religions?

He said that it is not a Hindu idea to exclude any community in India. The dignity of all human beings is equal. Embrace, respect and protect diversity. More than 5,000 people attended the event, which was organised by American Hindus for Engagement and Dialogue (AHEAD).
