Deadly Explosion Rocks Moscow: 3 Killed, 21 Hurt in Restaurant Blast

Moscow: Everything was going well in Russia's capital Moscow on Saturday evening. Then there was a loud explosion outside a famous Italian restaurant in the centre of the city. Within no time there was chaos. Three people died and more than 21 people were injured in this attack. Police have surrounded the entire area and started an investigation.

When and where did the blast occur?

This blast occurred around 8 pm on Saturday evening. The place was an Italian restaurant called "Balzi Rossi", located on Kudrinskaya Square. This restaurant is in one of the same old Stalin-era tall buildings of Moscow, which is also quite famous among tourists. After the blast, a queue of ambulances and police vehicles formed.

Who died and how did it happen?

According to Russia's Anti-Terrorism Committee, a woman was trying to enter the restaurant. She had a country-made bomb. The security guard present at the gate stopped her. The guard had just stopped it and within seconds there was an explosion. Three people lost their lives in this – the woman, the security guard and a customer sitting inside.

How many people are injured?

At least 21 people have been injured in the blast. The condition of many is said to be critical. Everyone has been admitted to nearby hospitals. After the accident, the entire area was sealed and heavy force has been deployed.

Did the woman know about the bomb?

A strange thing has come to light in the report of Russian newspaper Kommersant. Reports are saying that the bomb was probably placed outside the restaurant for people sitting in the open. 
And it may have been flown by remote. The report also raised suspicion that the woman who had the bomb herself did not know what she was carrying. But the police have not confirmed this yet. Investigation is going on.

What was happening in the restaurant at that time?

The restaurant owners said that the restaurant was closed for the general public on Saturday. A private party was going on inside. There were only selected guests. For this reason the number of casualties could have been higher.

Does it have any connection with the war?

Till now the investigating agencies have not named anyone. Neither has any organisation come forward, nor has any responsibility been taken. Officials have clearly stated that so far no direct link has been found to this blast with the Russia-Ukraine war or any other security issue. 

At present, the police are investigating the make of the bomb, who planted it, how it happened – from every angle. This type of attack rarely happens in Moscow. That's why security has been tightened in the city
