America: A tragic air accident occurred on Sunday in Hammonton, New Jersey, America. Here, two helicopters collided during flight above the Hammonton Municipal Airport. The collision occurred at approximately 11:25 am local time. The weather at that time was normal; there were light clouds, but visibility was fine. People present around the airport suddenly heard a loud noise above, after which there was chaos in the area.
There were only pilots in both the helicopters. There were no passengers present in any of the aircraft. After the collision, a helicopter spun rapidly and fell towards the ground and caught fire as soon as it collided. One pilot died on the spot. The pilot of the other helicopter also met with an accident and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Doctors have described his condition as very critical. The local administration has not yet released the names of the two pilots, as the family members have to be informed officially first.
Immediately after the accident, police, the fire department, and a medical team reached the spot. There was a fire in the helicopter that had fallen on the ground, which the fire brigade had to work hard to extinguish. People present near the airport said that a helicopter suddenly came down rotating rapidly, and within a few seconds an accident occurred. This created a situation of fear and confusion among the people. The administration has cordoned off the surrounding area and allowed the investigation teams to work.
This accident happened between two Enstrom model helicopters. One was an F-28A, and the other was a 280C model helicopter. Both of these are considered light helicopters and are often used for training, general flights, or short trips. This is why this accident has raised questions related to flight safety, especially in areas where small airports and training flights are more frequent.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched a joint investigation. At the initial level, investigators are trying to understand whether the two pilots were able to see each other in time or not. This is considered a basic "look and avoid" precaution in air traffic. Many times such accidents happen when a pilot is unable to see the other plane in the right direction or at the right time and a collision occurs. Also, the flight path, conversation with air traffic control, technical condition of the helicopter, and recent repair records will also be part of the investigation.
Hammonton is a small and quiet city whose population is around 15 thousand. The area is situated amidst farming, small communities, and dense forests. There is concern among the local people after the accident, and many people are raising questions on the safety of the training flights taking place at the airport. At present, the administration has temporarily stopped all flights, and security has been increased around the airport.
