International news: Former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley urged President Donald Trump to see India as a valuable independent and democratic partner, especially from a strategic perspective against China. She warned that disrupting the momentum of 25 years of partnership with India could be a strategic disaster for the US.The statement came after the US decided to impose a 25 percent duty on Indian goods, followed by an additional 25 percent tariff from August 27, taking the total duty to 50 percent.
In her article, Nikki Haley called the strong partnership between India and China a no-brainer and said that India's democratic rise should not be seen as a threat in contrast to China's communist rule. She also said that a free and democratic partnership with India can help the US counter China. She also underlined that India has the massive production capacity to challenge China's economic might, which can help shift US supply chains away from China.
Haley said India is the only country capable of mass-manufacturing cheap products such as textiles, cheap phones, and solar panels to help the US move its critical supply chains away from China. She also described India's growing defense capabilities and its active role in the Middle East as important, especially when the US wants to reduce the number of its troops and resources there.
Nikki Haley also advised India to take the Trump administration's words on the issue of buying oil from Russia seriously and find a solution to this with the White House. She also advised having a direct conversation with Prime Minister Modi so that there is no disagreement in India-US relations. She said that America needs to resolve its differences with India and give high-level attention to the relationship, like it does with China or Israel.
He finally said that America should consider India as its partner as a strong friend against China. Also, keeping in mind the common goals, the relations between the two countries should be strengthened further.
