Pakistan: Now a new diplomatic statement has come out regarding the tension between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. Pakistan has supported China's claim in which Beijing had said that it had played a role in handling the situation between the two countries during that period. Pakistan's Foreign Ministry has said that during the May 2025 crisis, China was in constant touch and was trying to reduce tension through dialogue.
Some time ago, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi had said that when the situation between India and Pakistan deteriorated, Beijing maintained communication with both sides. According to him, China had taken initiative at the diplomatic level to restore peace, and that is why the situation did not worsen much. China has been saying that it played this role as a responsible neighbor.
Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi told the press briefing that between May 6 and 10, China's top leadership had contacted Islamabad. Besides, there were talks at some level with India also. Pakistan says that the purpose of these contacts was to prevent the conflict from escalating, and it considers this effort of China as positive. Pakistan clearly said that it agrees with China's mediation statement.
The important thing in this whole matter is that earlier Pakistan had been giving credit for the ceasefire to the then US President Donald Trump. Now after several months of talking about considering China as a mediator, questions are being raised as to why Pakistan's stand changed. Experts believe that this points towards changing diplomatic priorities.
India has already rejected China's claim of mediation. New Delhi says that the decision to calm the situation after Operation Sindoor was completely bilateral. According to India, Pakistan's DGMO had contacted the Indian DGMO, and after the same conversation, an agreement was reached to stop military activities. India's clear stand is that no third country had any role in this.
China's claim and Pakistan's support are making this matter a subject of international debate. On one hand, China is presenting itself as a peacekeeping country, while India has been continuously reiterating that it does not accept external interference in its affairs. For this reason, these statements being made regarding Operation Sindoor can have an impact on regional politics in the future.
