Pakistan: Continuous rain and floods have completely disrupted life in Punjab province. More than 10,000 people trapped in floodwaters in Multan City were taken to safer places by the administration and relief teams overnight. The army and local administration are continuously engaged in relief and rescue operations.
A part of the mausoleum of Maharaja Ranjit Singh's father, Sardar Mahan Singh, in Gujranwala, collapsed due to heavy rains and waterlogging. The site is not only religiously important for the Sikh community but is also an important part of the cultural heritage of the entire subcontinent. Officials said that an expert team would be sent for its reconstruction and conservation.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari said that at least 60 people have died in the floods since August 23. The floods have submerged about 4,355 villages and affected 42 lakh people. So far 21 lakh people and 15 lakh cattle have been shifted to safer places.
Local people are facing the horrors of floods. Water is rising rapidly in many areas, and due to submerging villages, farmers' crops are getting destroyed. The administration is continuously working to drain out water and take people to safer places. Supply of food, water, and medicines is being ensured in the relief camps.
EPTB (Overseas Property Trust Board) said that now an expert team will be appointed to repair and preserve the mausoleum of Sardar Mahan Singh. This site is extremely important from a historical and religious point of view. Officials say that repair work will start soon so that the heritage can be kept safe.
Experts say that the flood has not only affected the lives of the people but has also posed a big crisis to agriculture and historical heritage. Relief and rescue teams are working continuously, but the situation is still out of control due to rising water levels. The administration has appealed to people to stay in safe places and follow the instructions of the officials.
