Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday signed the 'Board of Peace' charter, an initiative of US President Donald Trump, during the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland. This agreement is said to be related to handling the situation after the Gaza war and creating a new international platform for other conflicts in the world. This charter was signed by leaders of about 20 countries.

What objection did Israel raise to Pakistan's role?

After the agreement, Israel clearly said that it will not include Pakistan in any plan regarding the future of Gaza. Israel's Economy Minister Nir Barkat said that countries accused of supporting terrorist organizations cannot be trusted.

Taking the name of Pakistan, he said that such countries cannot be a part of any peacekeeping or transition process in Gaza.

What is Israel's stance regarding foreign troops in Gaza?

According to Barakat, Israel is against deploying armies of countries like Qatar, Turkey and Pakistan in Gaza. He said that it is difficult to trust such countries in a sensitive matter like security. However, he praised Trump's peace plan and said it was more practical than the current UN system, which he described as one-sided.

Why is there anger over this decision within Pakistan?

This step of Shehbaz Sharif has created a political stir in Pakistan also. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has called it a wrong decision.

The party says that any forum related to international peace should work under the United Nations, and a new system should not be created parallel to it. PTI has also demanded a nationwide referendum on this issue.

Are religious and opposition leaders also protesting?

Leader of the opposition in the Senate and head of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Allama Raja Nasir Abbas has also criticized the agreement. He described it as morally wrong and against the interests of Palestinians. He says that such decisions should not be taken without the opinion of the people of Gaza and Palestine.

Can the 'Board of Peace' become an alternative to the United Nations?

Donald Trump has described this board as an important part of his 20-point peace plan. According to reports, this organization will not be limited to Gaza only, but may also intervene in other international disputes in the future.

For this reason, many countries are seeing it as an attempt to weaken the role of the United Nations. It is also being said that a huge amount will have to be paid for its permanent membership.

Which countries have participated in this initiative?

So far, the countries that have agreed to join this board include Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, UAE, Egypt, Argentina, Indonesia, Jordan and some European countries. India and China were also invited, but India has not yet stated any official stance on this.
