Panama: After the powerful earthquake that occurred on the southern coast of Panama on Friday, the earth trembled once again on Monday. There is an atmosphere of panic among the people after this earthquake of 6.0 magnitude on the Richter scale. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), the earthquake occurred at a depth of about 35 kilometres from the ground.
Earlier on Friday, a powerful earthquake of 7.7 magnitude occurred in Panama. This caused damage to hundreds of homes and infrastructure in the central provinces of the country. More than 300 aftershocks were recorded following the initial earthquake. The government declared a national emergency over the weekend in response to the continued aftershocks and damage.
At least 27 people were injured and about 900 homes were damaged by the earthquake, according to emergency officials. It is a matter of relief that the authorities have not yet confirmed anyone's death.
However, assessment of damage in remote areas is still underway. In such a situation, the possibility of increase in the number of injured and damaged buildings cannot be ruled out.
According to officials, the provinces of Los Santos, Cocal, Veraguas and Herrera were among the areas most affected by the earthquake. Houses and other infrastructure have been damaged here. Due to continuous aftershocks, the concern of people in the affected areas has increased.
Hundreds of aftershocks were recorded after Friday's 7.7 magnitude earthquake, posing challenges to relief and rescue operations. The 6.0 magnitude earthquake that struck on Monday has heightened concerns about the situation. Officials are monitoring the situation in the affected areas and assessing the damage.
