Kyiv: Russian President Vladimir Putin indicated on Saturday that Kiev's peace efforts appear weak. Putin clearly said that if a solution is not found through talks, Russia will achieve the goals of its “special military operation” through force. His statement comes at a time when Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump are going to meet.

Situation of attacks: Is the situation worsening?

Russia fired about 500 drones and 40 missiles from Friday night to Saturday morning. These attacks continued to target Kyiv and its surrounding areas. During this period, at least one person died, and about 27 people were injured. Zelensky said that the attack lasting so long is proof that Russia does not want peace. He described it as “Russia's response to our peace efforts.”

Why is the meeting between Zelensky and Trump important?

Zelensky is scheduled to meet President Trump in the US on Sunday. The two are expected to discuss issues like security, possibilities of ceasefire, and disputes over areas like Donetsk and Zaporizhia. Zelensky, who left via Canada, said that Ukraine wants peace, but the attacks prove that Russia does not want it right now.

What was Canada's reaction?

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney described Russia's latest attacks as "barbaric" and said lasting peace is only possible if Russia is ready. He announced economic assistance of 2.5 billion Canadian dollars (about 1.82 billion US dollars) for Ukraine so that Ukraine can rebuild its economy.
