Following the attack on Ukraine, Russia's actions are now directed towards a new front. Satellite imagery has shown that Russia has initiated a huge military mobilization at four significant bases just near the border of Finland. When there is speculation about a potential meeting between Russia and Ukraine in Tyrgya, Vladimir Putin's stealthy preparations are giving Europe a deep sense of worry. Sweden's public television SVT has released Planet Labs satellite images of rapid military activity at four Russian bases – Kamenka, Petrozavodsk, Severomorsk-2 and Olenya.

Three giant storage halls have been constructed

Kamenka lies only 35 miles from Finland.Kamenka is just 35 miles away from Finland. More than 130 military tents have been erected there since February. It has been estimated that up to 2,000 soldiers can be deployed here. Simultaneously, 109 miles away from the Petrozavodsk Finnish border, three giant storage halls have been constructed, where 50-50 armored vehicles can be accommodated.

Base is thought to be crucial for Russia's air campaigns

Specialists think that these halls have been constructed to conceal the actual figures. The third location is Severomorsk-2, numerous helicopters have been spotted in satellite images here. This base is thought to be crucial for Russia's air campaigns. The fourth is Olenya, as stated by Ukraine, and which has been invaded a number of times on their territory from this base. There has also been a new wave here.

Alliances are tense after Finland and Sweden become part of NATO

Russia's preparation is coming during a period when Finland and Sweden have just recently joined NATO. Finland joined NATO in April 2023 following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Following that, Sweden also joined NATO in March 2024. Russia has again and again blamed NATO for being aggressive and expressed that it will take required actions. Now these images appear to substantiate that warning as true.

Will Russia follow the same move as Ukraine?

Satellite imagery reminded us of 2021 when Russia attacked the Ukraine border in 2022 following the same actions. Finland became a NATO member in April 2023 after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. Sweden's defense head Michael Klaasen also stated, "When we became members of NATO, Russia mentioned that they would respond, now it is turning out to be true."
