Russia Launches Massive Ballistic Missile Attack On Ukraine, Explosions Rock Kyiv

Kyiv: Russia has launched a massive attack, firing ballistic missiles at Ukraine's capital of Kyiv, resulting in massive explosions and widespread destruction in several areas. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, early Thursday morning, Moscow fired ballistic and cruise missiles towards several cities. 

Where did the attack happen?

According to local media and officials, fires and smoke were reported in various parts of Kyiv following the missile strike. The rescue teams reached the scene and started their relief and rescue efforts.

On Thursday, the mayor of Kyiv reported that Russia was attacking the capital with ballistic missiles. The mayor, Vitali Klitschko, announced it in a Telegram post, which called for people to take shelter. Klitschko said that some non-residential buildings in Kyiv caught fire.

What about other places?

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that, in addition to Kyiv, Dnipro and Kryvyi Rih were also hit by the attacks. According to the military, Russia launched cruise missiles from strategic bombers in several stages, while missile launches were also detected from the Novorossiysk region in southern Russia.

Several explosions could be heard in the city, according to reports from a witness. A "significant" attack by Russia against Ukraine is expected, the country's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Wednesday.

What did the Ukraine President say?

Just hours before the attacks, Volodymyr Zelenskyy had said he had received reports from the air force that Russia was preparing a large-scale attack across Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainians' security depends on allies' readiness to provide anti-missile defense systems, as he returned from the United States where he said President Donald Trump had agreed to grant Ukraine a license for Patriot missiles.

A day earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy had met with US President Donald Trump at the White House and requested additional air defense systems to deter Russia's increasing airstrikes.
