New Delhi: Saudi Arabia has executed five of its own citizens. They were convicted on terrorism-related charges. Those executed were accused of joining a foreign organization, attacking security forces, and supporting attacks inside Saudi Arabia. Further information about the five citizens and their alleged involvement in terrorist crimes has not yet been released.
Earlier, on October 15, two Bangladeshi nationals were executed in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Ministry of Interior stated that they were found guilty of committing an act of indecency inside a mosque. The executions took place on Wednesday in the Mecca area. According to the Ministry of Interior's statement, the two men executed were Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar, both Bangladeshi nationals. The ministry clarified that security officials arrested the two after completing an investigation. Following the investigation, they were charged and the case was handed over to a competent court.
The situation in Saudi Arabia is currently tense due to Houthi attacks. India on Friday advised its citizens in Saudi Arabia to remain indoors in case of airstrikes and follow the instructions of local authorities. It also urged pilgrims, including those performing Umrah, to be mindful of the ongoing flight disruptions during their travels.
The new advisory comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf country following drone and missile attacks targeting civilian infrastructure by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels. The Indian Embassy in Riyadh, while giving information on the condition of Indian nationals injured in the Riyadh airport attack on October 10, said two people are still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while one person has been shifted from the ICU.
