International News: US President Donald Trump has announced the appointment of his close aide Sergio Gor as the new American Ambassador to India. Along with this, Gor will also take charge as the Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. This major decision was shared by Trump through a social media post, where he expressed confidence in Gor’s leadership and long association with him.
Trump stated that he was delighted to appoint Sergio Gor as the next ambassador to India, adding that Gor had played an important role in the success of his presidential campaigns and in managing senior appointments in the White House. Trump also highlighted that Gor and his team had been responsible for bringing thousands of officials into government service within record time. Calling Gor a loyal friend, Trump said he had known him for years and trusted his leadership.
Sergio Gor was born in 1986 in Uzbekistan, which was then part of the Soviet Union. His family lived in Malta for a few years before moving to the United States in 1999. Gor studied in Los Angeles and later pursued higher education in Washington, DC, at George Washington University. Initially, he was enrolled under his family name, Gorokhovsky, but later shortened it to Gor.
Gor began his political career during the 2008 presidential campaign, where he worked with Republican candidate John McCain. Later, he was associated with Senator Rand Paul before moving on to join Donald Trump’s team. In 2020, he became Chief of Staff for the Trump Victory Finance Committee and later worked as an advisor to Donald Trump Jr. By 2024, Trump appointed him as Director of the White House Office of Personnel.
Gor has also been in the spotlight for controversies. He was reportedly at the center of disagreements between Elon Musk and Donald Trump. At one point, Musk even called Gor a “snake” during a public clash. Apart from this, Gor’s past visits to Moscow raised curiosity, as records showed he traveled to Russia in 2017 and 2018, though the purpose of those trips was never fully disclosed.
After being chosen for this prestigious role, Gor expressed gratitude to President Trump. He said it was a great honor to represent the United States in India and to serve as Special Envoy for South and Central Asia. He emphasized that serving the American people is the greatest privilege of his career.
Sergio Gor now replaces Eric Garcetti, who held the ambassadorial position in New Delhi from May 2023 until January 2025. The role had remained vacant since then, and Gor will now take over one of Washington’s most significant diplomatic assignments.
