Bangkok: At least 15 people have been injured in a shooting in Thailand which killed several others at a local school on Friday. According to authorities, the incident took place in Debsirin School located in the outskirts of the Thai capital, Bangkok, Nonthaburi district. According to police sources, the alleged shooter was a student at the school.
As per Poh Teck Tung Foundation volunteers, the incident occurred at around 10 am (local time) at the popular secondary school. The students and teachers had to flee the premises as the students opened fire at the school premises.
Lt. Col. Pasakorn Chaitawiwong, head of the Plai Bang subdistrict police department, added that the number of deaths remains unknown, although according to The Bangkok Post and Thai Enquirer, at least two deaths have been confirmed.
The police officials stated that the gunman took his own life with an apparent self-inflicted wound. Further investigations are being conducted to shed light on the matter.
Videos featuring the students released by the emergency services team show an ambulance heading to the school as the students run out of the doors. The event was also broadcasted live on social media and is now trending across the web, although security is requesting not to broadcast the event.
