Washington: US President Donald Trump on Monday denied reports that America's top military officer had warned about the risks of a major operation against Iran, and said that Washington would "easily" beat Tehran in any war.
Following various media reports regarding that the US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine has raised concerns against a prolonged attack on Iran, US President Donald Trump said his top general isn’t opposed to such a war.
Trump in a post on his Truth Social platform wrote, "Numerous stories from the Fake News Media have been circulating stating that General Daniel Caine, sometimes referred to as Razin, is against us going to War with Iran."
“The story does not attribute this vast wealth of knowledge to anyone, and is 100 per cent incorrect," the US President said.
This post came as speculation continues to continue regarding whether Donald Trump will order a US attack on Iran in the coming days.
"General Caine, like all of us, would like not to see War but, if a decision is made on going against Iran at a Military level, it is his opinion that it will be something easily won," he concluded the post.
Earlier, Donald Trump threatened an attack following Iran’s deadly crackdown on mass anti-regime protests last month, and has also conveyed that he would strike if talks between the two countries over Iran’s nuclear program collapse.
Talks are set to resume in Geneva on Thursday and Donald Trump has also indicated that he will make a decision within days.
Non-essential US personnel have been withdrawn from the American embassy in Lebanon, a State Department official said on Monday, amid fears of a regional conflict.
Earlier, US media had reported that the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, General Dan Caine, warned of various risks associated with strikes against Iran including a long-term entanglement.
