New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has once again started the Nobel Prize rhetoric. On Wednesday, he claimed to have stopped eight wars. Notably, he has made this claim on numerous occasions before, including those between India and Pakistan. However, India has clarified that the ceasefire during Operation Sindoor was initiated at Pakistan's request, and no third party was involved.
"I've done things no one else has ever done. I'm not bragging, I'm just telling you the truth. Hardly any president has ever ended a war. I've ended eight," Trump told the Oval Office, the office where the US president works, located in the White House in Washington, DC.
Trump also said that not giving him the Nobel would only harm the reputation of the Norwegian committee that awards the prize. He said, "They have such a reputation that they probably don't give this honor to people like me. But whether I get it or not, I've done much more than that. I think it would be a huge disgrace for them. And I'm not saying this out of hatred."
During this, Trump also mentioned former President Barack Obama by name. He also alleged that the former President had done nothing for this. He said, "Obama got this and he did nothing for this. He still doesn't know why he got this. He got this when he was elected, at the very beginning, and he had no idea why he got this."
Notably, Trump was hoping he could win the Nobel Peace Prize, which went to Maria Corina Machado of Venezuela. He said, "Last time they gave it to a girl who's a wonderful human being and they said she didn't deserve it, that I deserved it, and they gave it to me."
He said, "It was a great honor for me to receive this award in this way. The previous recipient said that no one in history deserved it more than President Trump."
Notably, Trump's comments come at a time when tensions between the US and Iran remain high even after a long-running war. A consensus has still not been reached between the two countries. This significantly disrupted global oil supplies, impacting India as well. Tensions between the two countries over the Strait of Hormuz continue.
Notably, US President Trump has been trying to stop the war between Russia and Ukraine for a long time, but has been unsuccessful. He has met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in this regard. The war between the two countries began in February 2022.
