Washington: The Shri Swaminarayan Vadtal Dham Hindu Temple located in Richmond Heights, Ohio state of America was attacked by unknown assailants. According to reports, the attackers threw bricks at the temple building, breaking windows and causing damage to the complex. Priests and devotees were present inside the temple at the time of the incident.
According to the Hindu American Foundation (HAF) and the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA), the attack occurred around 1:30 pm local time on Friday. The attackers threw several bricks targeting the temple building. After the incident, the local police were informed.
It is told that at the time when bricks were thrown at the temple, many devotees were also present inside along with the priest. As per the currently available information, no one has been confirmed injured. After the attack, concerns have also been raised about the security of the temple.
After the incident, the local police have started scanning the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the temple. Police and FBI have also been informed about the incident by Hindu organisations. According to HAF, CCTV footage related to the case has been made available to the police.
Hindu organisations have also mentioned the vandalism of temples and alleged hate incidents that have taken place in the US in the past. In March 2025, an incident of vandalism and alleged hate messages was written in the BAPS temple located in Chino Hills, California. In September 2024, there were also reports of damage to BAPS temples in Melville, New York and Sacramento, California.
HAF and other organisations have demanded the Richmond Heights administration publicly condemn the incident and quickly arrest the accused. The organisations have appealed to the local administration as well as the FBI for cooperation in investigating the case.
At present, the police are trying to find out the reason behind the attack and the identity of the people involved in it. It is also a matter of investigation whether the incident should be considered as normal vandalism or whether there was some kind of hate-related intention behind it.
