Washington: There have been signs of softening in relations between America and Iran amid increasing tension in the Middle East. Both countries have decided to meet in Qatar's capital Doha to discuss the dispute related to the Strait of Hormuz. It is believed that the purpose of this conversation is to reduce the increased tension on the sea route and to maintain normal movement of international ships.

What will be the important discussion in Doha?

According to reports, senior officials of both countries will meet in Doha on Tuesday. Issues related to safe movement of ships and maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz will be discussed in the meeting. American officials say that during the talks, both sides will maintain distance from military action so that a solution can be found.

Will ships now be able to pass without any hindrance?

According to US officials, the movement of commercial ships will remain normal until the talks are completed at the technical level. At present, there is no plan to stop any ship so that the supply of oil and other essential goods is not affected.

Why are questions being raised again on the ceasefire?

There was an agreement on ceasefire between the two countries about 11 days ago, but after the recent statements, questions are being raised on its stability. US President Donald Trump has warned that if Iran does not follow the terms of the agreement, America may take military action again.

What does Iran have to say on the Strait of Hormuz?

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has claimed that according to the initial agreement, Iran has got the responsibility of handling the movement of sea vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. He says that Iran has the biggest role in the security and operation of this important waterway. But America is not ready to accept this claim of Iran. America directly says that the Strait of Hormuz is an international sea route. Ships from any country in the world can come and go here without any restrictions. No one country can control this.

How did the dispute start?

The tension between the two countries increased further when Iran targeted a ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz near Oman. After this, Tehran clearly said that the ships should leave only through the alternative route near its coast. Ships travelling on the remaining routes were also warned. After this incident, America and Iran came face to face. The issue of Hormuz Strait is no longer just between two countries. The whole world is keeping an eye on this dispute, because about 20% of the world's oil passes through this route.

What is stipulated in the agreement?

According to media reports, in the agreement signed in early June, Iran has been given the responsibility of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and ensuring the safe movement of commercial ships. In addition, Iran will also work with other countries in the region on the operation and future arrangements of sea routes.
