Tel Aviv: Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Israel has released a video that has sparked renewed international debate. On March 6, 2026, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) shared a 3D animation video depicting the structure of an alleged underground bunker in Tehran. Israel claims that this bunker belonged to Iran's former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to the IDF, 50 Israeli Air Force fighter jets targeted the bunker in a precision strike, completely destroying it. The video quickly went viral on social media.
Khamenei was killed in a joint US-Israeli air strike on February 28, 2026, while he was in his compound in Tehran. Iranian state media confirmed his death on March 1. Subsequently, US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also publicly mentioned his death. Following Khamenei's death, Iran declared 40 days of national mourning.
According to the IDF, this bunker was built beneath the leadership compound in central Tehran. It contained several underground tunnels, separate rooms, and at least eight entry points. Israel claims that this location served as a command center during wartime, where senior Iranian officials could meet and formulate strategies.
This approximately 30-second 3D animation video released by Israel depicts the entire structure of the bunker. It also shows entry points, a network of tunnels, and a map of the surrounding residential areas.
The video also shows how Israeli fighter jets targeted the entire underground structure in a precision strike. The final part of the video shows the bunker completely destroyed.
Israel says that some of the bunker's entry points were near areas where civilians live. These include places like schools, hospitals, mosques, vaccination centers, and parking garages.
Some anti-Iranian users on social media have also alleged that such bunkers are built beneath civilian areas so that civilians can be used as "human shields" if necessary. However, these claims have not been confirmed by Iran.
Following the video's release, several international media outlets have highlighted it. Platforms like the New York Post, Fox News, The Sun, Times of Israel, and Iran International have discussed the news.
The video is also being widely shared on the social media platform X. Some users are calling it Israeli propaganda. Iran has yet to clarify whether the bunker in question has actually been destroyed.
However, there have been reports of several large explosions and fires in Tehran in recent days. The conflict, which began in late February, continues to escalate, and the world is watching to see how the situation in the Middle East unfolds.
