Washington: There was a stir outside the White House in Washington DC on Saturday evening when suddenly the sound of gunshots was heard. Within no time the entire area was surrounded by security agencies and a large number of policemen and Secret Service agents reached the spot. At that time US President Donald Trump was present inside the White House.
A man walked through a security checkpoint near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, just steps from the White House. Looked like everyone else. He then took out a weapon from the bag and started firing at the Secret Service agents. People present nearby said that the sounds of bullets kept coming one after the other. About 30 rounds were fired. Within a few minutes the entire area was surrounded and roads were closed.
The agents responded. The attacker was shot and taken to hospital, but did not survive. During this time a pedestrian was also injured. No concrete information has been received yet about his condition.
ABC News senior White House correspondent Selina Wang was reporting near the White House complex at the time. She shared a video on social media platform X, in which suddenly a loud sound of gunshots is heard.
It can be seen in the video that as soon as the firing starts, Wang gets scared and bends down and tries to take a safe place. This video of her was viewed millions of times within a few hours.
The US Secret Service said in its statement that according to initial investigation, at around 6 pm, a person reached near the security checkpoint, took out a weapon from the bag and started firing. In response, officers also opened fire, killing the suspect.
The agency also confirmed that President Trump was present inside the White House at the time of the incident and was not harmed.
Donald Trump has faced many security threats in the last few years. Recently in April, a case of alleged murder conspiracy came to light during a program organized in a hotel in Washington.
Apart from this, during the 2024 presidential election campaign, a bullet was fired at him in a rally. In that attack, the bullet had missed Trump's ear, after which the Secret Service sniper killed the attacker on the spot.
