'Won't Be Arrested In Any Way': Donald Trump Defends Netanyahu Against Mamdani's Remarks

Washington: Amidst the uproar over New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's statement regarding the arrest of the Israeli Prime Minister, US President Donald Trump has made it clear that Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested under any circumstances while he is in America.

What did Donald Trump say?

President Donald Trump has issued a major statement in support of Benjamin Netanyahu, stating that there is no question of the Israeli Prime Minister's arrest in the US. The US President said that if anyone should be held accountable for the violence and destruction, it should be Iran's leaders. 

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, "Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested, in any way, shape, or form, while in the United States of America."

"The only ones that should be arrested are the people that led Iran into this unprecedented SPIRAL OF DEATH AND DESTRUCTION, something that should have been dealt with years ago, by previous Presidents!" he added.

What did Zohran Mamdani say?

The issue of Netanyahu's arrest gained momentum when New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani made a statement about the Israeli Prime Minister in an interview. According to reports, Mamdani said in an interview that he believes Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should be arrested for war crimes if he comes to the city for the United Nations General Assembly in September, but he also said that he would not try to change the laws to do so.

"Whatever the law allows me to do in New York City, that's what we will do, but we won't be writing our own laws to that end. I believe Prime Minister Netanyahu belongs in The Hague. He's a war criminal who has been charged by the International Criminal Court," he said.

What did Israeli ambassador say?

Israeli Ambassador to the US Mike Waltz hit back at Mamdani, saying that his intention to arrest Netanyahu will never be fulfilled. Waltz wrote on the social media platform X, "Mayor Mamdani, why your threat to arrest PM Netanyahu in New York during the UNGA will never be fulfilled? First, the US is not party to the Rome Statute, which falls under the ICC. Second, the UN Headquarters Agreement provides diplomatic protection to incoming heads of government. Third, head-of-state immunity applies. Fourth, federal authority is above the wishes of any local mayor. This is pure political charade."
