Florida: US President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. After this, Trump said that the peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine feels closer than ever. However, he also acknowledged that negotiations could stop at any time and the war could drag on. This statement came when Trump spoke to Russian President Putin on the phone for two and a half hours.
After the meeting, both the leaders issued a joint statement. In this, there were talks on the way to end the war, decisions related to security, and future talks. Trump said that the conversation took place openly and opinions were formed on many important issues.
Trump says that if everything continues in the right direction, an agreement can be made in a few weeks. But if the circumstances are adverse, then this will not be possible. He said that there have been talks with the leaders of Europe in recent times, and everyone's focus is on ending the war.
Zelensky described the meeting as positive. He said that about 90 percent consensus has been reached on the 20-point peace plan. There is complete agreement on security guarantees between America and Ukraine. He said Ukraine wants peace, and further technical talks will continue.
Trump claimed that Putin seemed open to the idea of a trilateral meeting. He says that Putin wants to improve the situation. Trump even said that there was a time when Russia had helped Ukraine with its energy needs, so an attempt could be made to build trust to some extent.
Now the focus is on whether all three parties will be able to sit together in talks. There is both hope and uncertainty in the environment. Steps are being taken towards agreement, but nothing can be said about the outcome yet. If talks pick up pace in the coming days, it will be considered a concrete possibility for the first time since the war started.
