New Delhi: Sugarcane juice is a popular choice during the summer season. A glass of sugarcane juice in the sweltering heat can feel incredibly refreshing, but this brief refreshment can negatively impact some peoples health. Drinking sugarcane juice can have some side effects, especially if consumed in large quantities or if consumed by someone with a pre-existing medical condition.
Sugarcane juice refreshes the body and its fiber content is also beneficial. However, some people need to avoid sugarcane juice.
Diabetic people
People with diabetes and high blood sugar levels should avoid drinking sugarcane juice. This is because the juice contains a high amount of natural sugar, which can cause a sudden increase in blood sugar levels. Diabetic people who drink sugarcane juice run the risk of increasing their blood sugar levels.
Obese people
People who are overweight should also avoid sugarcane juice. It is high in calories and quickly increases sugar levels in the body. Both of these are not good for overweight people. Therefore, doctors advise obese people not to drink sugarcane juice, although this does not mean that they should not drink it at all. If your sugar levels are under control and you are not taking any medication for obesity, you can drink one glass of sugarcane juice once a week.
People with digestive problems
People who frequently suffer from indigestion, stomach pain, or excessive gas should also avoid drinking sugarcane juice, as it can worsen stomach problems.
People Prone to Tooth Decay
Sugarcane juice is sticky and rich in natural sugars that cling to the teeth, encouraging bacterial growth and cavities. Those with tooth decay, gum infections, or sensitivity should be extra cautious.
People with low immunity
Sugarcane juice is often sold on streets, where hygiene is not always guaranteed. The juice is usually extracted from cane pressed through machines that may not be cleaned properly. For people with strong immunity, the body may fight off minor infections but for people with low immunity its a risk.
People with Liver Problems or Jaundice
Ayurveda recommends sugarcane juice as a liver tonic, especially for jaundice, but modern experts advise moderation. For people suffering from cirrhosis, fatty liver, or advanced liver disease, the high sugar load can stress the liver further.
People who drink sugarcane juice should also keep in mind that they should never drink this juice in excess quantity and avoid drinking the juice on an empty stomach.
