National News: The Punjab government has taken a significant step to curb drug trafficking from Pakistan by implementing an anti-drone system along the border. On Saturday, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated three anti-drone units at the Police Lines premises in Tarn Taran. Kejriwal stated that any drone entering Punjab from Pakistan will be detected and destroyed by the new system. Kejriwal said that Punjab is witnessing a crucial turning point in its fight against drug abuse. Previous governments, allegedly in collusion with drug traffickers, had pushed the youth of Punjab into addiction. However, with the formation of the AAP government, strict actions have been taken to arrest offenders, demolish properties bought with drug money, and seize bank accounts.

Majority of Drugs in Punjab Smuggled via Drones from Pak

Kejriwal explained that most of the drugs sold in Punjab are brought through drones operated from Pakistan. The new anti-drone system will intercept and neutralize any such drones crossing the border. Currently, three systems are operational, with six more on the way. Additional units will be purchased if necessary.

First State to Deploy Own Anti-Drone Technology on Border

Punjab has become the first state in India to install its own anti-drone system on the international border, empowering its people with stronger security against drug smuggling. The AAP government is committed to eradicating drug abuse in Punjab with the help of its three crore residents. Where previous administrations failed, the current government is actively pushing for a drug-free Punjab.

Mann Highlights Do-or-Die Battle Against Drug Smuggling

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said Punjab is engaged in a life-and-death struggle against drug trafficking across its 553-km border with Pakistan, one of the most sensitive areas for drug and arms smuggling. To enhance border security, nine anti-drone systems are being installed at a cost of ₹51.4 crore. These systems will provide a tough response to smugglers exploiting drone technology.

The anti-drone system comes with automated alert technology that instantly notifies authorities upon detecting drones, eliminating the need for manual monitoring. Coordination with BSF, Indian Air Force, and Indian Army ensures effective implementation.

Special Anti-Drug Curriculum Introduced for 8 Lakh Students

Punjab government has launched a special curriculum on drug awareness for 8 lakh students from classes 9 to 12, aiming to educate them on the dangers of drug abuse through participation from eminent scientists and educators. Mann stated that drug abuse in Punjab deepened due to political support since 2009, but the current government has adopted a systematic strategy to combat this menace, resulting in arrests of major drug dealers and their political patrons.
