New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday has replaced Raghav Chadha as its deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha with MP Ashok Mittal, according to party sources.
The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday has written to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, saying that Raghav Chadha should be removed from the position of Deputy Leader of the party in the Upper House.
The Aam Aadmi Party in a formal communication on Thursday requested the Rajya Sabha Secretariat stating that Raghav Chadha should be removed from the position of Deputy Leader of the party in the Upper House.
The party further asked the Upper House Secretariat that Raghav Chadha should not be allotted time from AAP’s quota in Parliament.
AAP has also requested the Secretariat of the House to appoint MP Ashok Mittal, an Indian businessman-turned-politician and the Founder and Chancellor of Lovely Professional University, as the AAP's Deputy Leader in the Upper House, replacing Raghav Chadha.
Neither Raghav Chadha nor the Aam Aadmi Party has disclosed the reason behind this decision.
The AAP, last week, dropped Raghav Chadha from its list of star campaigners for the upcoming Assembly elections.
This action against Raghav Chadha comes at a time when he has consistently been vocal on public issues in the Rajya Sabha, raising issues of public interest, whether it's paid paternity leave, high food costs at airports or the issue of delivery boys.
The Aam Aadmi Party currently has 10 members in the Rajya Sabha, including seven from Punjab and three from Delhi. Raghav Chadha, who is Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab has been associated with the Aam Aadmi Party since its beginning.
