Ahmedabad: A massive explosion ripped through a firecracker assembly area on Saturday along Ahmedabad's Ramol-Gatrad Road. As per media reports, the lives of eight people and leaving more than ten others injured. The facility was actively assembling fireworks in an open lot when the blast went off. Emergency medical teams quickly dispatched the injured survivors to nearby hospitals, while rescue operators combed the wreckage, raising the confirmed death count to eight after initially locating only two victims.

Was the facility legally authorized to manufacture fireworks?

Official findings indicate the operation was entirely unlawful, as regulatory authorities had already stripped the unit of its manufacturing credentials. According to police reports, the individual overseeing the setup, Mehul Dodiya, disregarded the license revocation and kept the assembly lines running regardless. Joint Commissioner of Police Jaipal Singh Rathore noted that a crew of 12 to 15 individuals was on-site doing high-risk manual labor when the explosion happened.

First responders have managed to fully contain the blaze, bringing the immediate crisis under control. Local law enforcement is preparing to file a formal criminal case against those responsible under statutes governing culpable homicide as well as specific breaches of the Explosives Act. Meanwhile, specialists from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) have arrived at the scene alongside investigators to piece together the exact physical trigger behind the detonation and log the safety violations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi publically offered his condolences to the grieving families via a statement on X, expressing deep sorrow over the accident in Gujarat and confirming that local municipal teams are actively assisting the survivors.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister announced direct financial aid from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF), allocating a sum of Rs. 2 lakh for the immediate families of each deceased worker, alongside Rs. 50,000 for every individual recovering from injuries sustained in the blast.
