Air India said on Tuesday that its flight from Ahmedabad to London’s Gatwick Airport has been cancelled due to the aircraft being unavailable. The airline explained that this was a result of airspace restrictions and additional precautionary checks.
Some reports previously said the flight was called off due to technical issues, but Air India made it clear that this was not true. The main reasons were related to operational challenges stemming from airspace conditions and careful safety checks.
The airline apologised to all the passengers who were affected by this change. Air India assured them that it is making alternative arrangements to help them travel to their destination. For those stranded, hotel accommodations are being provided by Air India. Additionally, passengers have the option to reschedule their flight at no additional cost or to apply for a full ticket refund if they prefer not to travel immediately.
The flight from London’s Gatwick back to Amritsar, Air India flight AI170, which was scheduled for 17 June, has also been cancelled due to these operational issues.
The cancellation comes at a time when airspace has been temporarily restricted due to conflict between Iran and Israel. Air India explained that this has made flight operations more challenging and has required additional checks.
Meanwhile, Air India is fully cooperating with investigations into a separate incident — the Air India flight that tragically crashed after takeoff from Ahmedabad on 12 June. Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi confirmed that DNA samples from 144 people who died in the incident have been successfully matched. According to him, this matching process was finished by Tuesday afternoon.
Rakesh Joshi, Superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, also addressed the media, stating that the number of BJ Medical College students who died in the incident remained at four. The hospital is offering all necessary help to the affected families during this difficult time.
