New Delhi: The troubles of Ashok Kharat, who calls himself a 'spiritual guru' in Maharashtra, are increasing continuously. In another new case, he has been accused of fraud of about Rs 1 crore. According to the police, this has taken the number of cases registered against him to 12 so far. After the matter came to light, the investigating agencies intensified the in-depth investigation into their activities.
In the new case, a businessman has alleged that Kharat took a huge amount from him by promising him land and some special measures. According to the complaint, around Rs 1 crore was taken in different installments, but neither the land deal was completed nor the money was returned.
Investigation has revealed that this is not the first case. Even before this, many victims have come forward who have made allegations of fraud in the name of land, investment and religious practices. As per police records, the cases registered so far include cheating, criminal breach of trust and other serious charges.
The investigating agencies suspect that this entire network was working in an organized manner. Transactions worth crores of rupees were done by opening bank accounts in different names. Initial investigation has revealed more than 100 accounts and transactions worth crores of rupees, which has further increased the seriousness of the matter.
Kharat is already facing arrest in a case of raping a woman. Apart from this, many women have made allegations of exploitation against him. These cases have made the entire episode more sensitive and the investigation is going on at many levels.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is investigating the entire network, sources of money and assets. Officials say that all the cases are being linked so that the entire conspiracy can be exposed. More revelations are expected in the coming days.
The way new victims are continuously coming forward, there are indications that this matter may become bigger. The police have appealed to the people that if anyone has been cheated then they should come forward and lodge a complaint.
