3 Days of Mourning Announced After Khamenei’s Death, Special Majlis and Candle March Planned

There has been a sharp reaction in religious circles after the news of the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the joint military action of America and Israel in Lucknow.

Lucknow: As soon as the news of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's death spread in Lucknow, there was a sharp reaction in religious circles. Following international reports related to the joint military action by America and Israel, Muslim religious leaders issued statements in many cities including the capital. Many leaders said that if this news is true then it is a deep shock not only for Iran but for the entire Ummah. He described such an incident in the holy month of Ramzan as extremely sad.

Why preparations for mourning and protest?

Maulana Kalbe Jawad, a prominent cleric of the Shia community, announced three days of mourning. He appealed to the community to express condolences by keeping their establishments closed. A special condolence meeting at Chhota Imambara followed by a candle march has been planned. An appeal was made to Shia organizations across the country to unite and organize condolence meetings.

Why was the issue of international law raised?

Maulana Khalid Rashid Farangi Mahali said that military action against an independent nation is against international rules. He said that if there is an attack within the border of a sovereign country then it is a serious signal for global peace. He termed such incidents in the month of Ramadan as extremely unfortunate and demanded an impartial international investigation.

Maulana Yasoob Abbas said that an attack on leadership does not eliminate ideas. Citing history, he said that sometimes such incidents further strengthen the ideology. According to him, if this news is true then it is an emotional moment for the Muslim society, but the reaction should be restrained.

Why the demand for a global response?

Shia Chand Committee Chairman Maulana Saif Abbas appealed to international organizations to take a clear stand. He says that if a concrete response is not given on global forums, regional instability may increase further. He described diplomatic efforts towards peace and justice as necessary.

How is the vigilance of the administration?

The police have deployed additional forces in view of possible condolence meetings and processions. Officials have appealed to people to maintain calm and not believe in unconfirmed information. At present the situation is said to be normal, but security agencies are under constant surveillance.
