Bareilly: Following the resignation of the City Magistrate in Bareilly, another senior official's resignation in Uttar Pradesh has sent shockwaves through administrative and political circles of Uttar Pradesh. On Tuesday, Prashant Kumar Singh, the Deputy Commissioner of the State Tax Department posted in Ayodhya, resigned from his post. He took this decision in support of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
After resigning, when he called his wife, he couldn't control himself. His voice choked during the conversation, and he broke down in tears. He only managed to say to his wife, "Yes, hello... I have resigned. I can't bear it anymore."
In his conversation with his wife, Prashant Kumar Singh said that he hadn't been able to sleep properly for two nights. His mind was deeply troubled. He said, "One should repay the debt of gratitude to those whose salt one eats. I receive my salary from this state, I work under this government. If there are insulting remarks against the same leadership and I remain silent, it is not possible for me."
He also said that he has two daughters and he wants his children to see that their father was not afraid to stand between right and wrong. “This decision was not taken impulsively, but after long introspection,” he said.
Prashant Kumar Singh has sent his resignation addressed to the Governor of Uttar Pradesh. In this two-page letter, he has strongly objected to the comments made by Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati of Jyotish Peeth against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In the letter, he has described these statements as indecent, undignified, and nonsensical ranting. He says that such comments are not only an attack on a particular individual, but a direct attack on the country's democratic structure, the constitution, and the mandate of the people.
In his resignation, Prashant Kumar Singh has written that as a government official, he also has a duty as a public servant. According to him, this duty is not limited to merely processing files or collecting revenue, but also to protecting the respect of the system and leadership under which he is working. He wrote that using derogatory language against democratically elected Prime Minister and Chief Minister on public platforms creates confusion, animosity, and instability in society. Remaining silent at such a time felt against his self-respect.
In his letter, Prashant Kumar Singh wrote in very emotional terms that he cannot work merely like a salaried robot. He said that despite being an officer, he is also a citizen, a father, and a conscious individual. He clarified that this resignation was not given under any pressure, instruction, or for any political gain. This decision is entirely based on his conscience.
In his resignation letter, Prashant Kumar Singh also accused Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand of spreading the poison of casteism in society. He says that such statements weaken the social fabric of the state and the country. He wrote that after centuries of suffering and struggle, the country chose the path of equality and justice through the Constitution. In such a situation, the use of divisive language by any responsible religious or social person is extremely unfortunate. At the end of his letter, Prashant Kumar Singh also clarified that until his resignation is formally accepted, he will continue to discharge all the responsibilities of his post with complete dedication. He reiterated his commitment to revenue growth and departmental work. This letter is dated January 27, 2026, and was issued from Ayodhya. In his resignation, Prashant Kumar Singh clearly wrote that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is the democratically elected head of the state, and he cannot accept his insult under any circumstances.
It is noteworthy that Prashant Kumar Singh was posted in Ayodhya in the year 2023. He was working as a Divisional Deputy Commissioner in the State Tax Department. After his resignation was accepted, he also indicated that he would contribute to social causes with his personal resources and would continue to work for society in some form or another.
