National News: Significant revelations have emerged during the interrogation of UP ATS with Jalaluddin, alias Changur Baba, and his associate Neetu, alias Nasreen, who were arrested on charges of illegal religious conversion. ATS has discovered that institutions linked to Changur have received foreign funding worth crores of rupees from countries such as Pakistan, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
This money was routed to India through agents in Nepal and later converted into Indian currency via money exchange centers located in districts like Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, and Lakhimpur. These agents were reportedly paid commissions for facilitating the transactions.
Investigations have further revealed that a significant portion of the foreign funds was sent to Ayodhya, where secret information about conversion activities has surfaced. ATS suspects that the funds were used to motivate people, especially Hindu girls, to convert to Islam.
During the probe, ATS discovered ₹14.10 crore in the bank accounts of Neetu, alias Nasreen, and ₹34 crore in the accounts of her husband, Naveen, both of which have been seized. Authorities also suspect that the couple holds bank accounts in foreign countries, which are currently under investigation.
During questioning, Nasreen admitted that the money brought in from Nepal was converted into Indian currency through local agents in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. In particular, Balrampur, Bahraich, Shravasti, and Lakhimpur were key locations where cash was converted and legitimized with the help of money exchangers.
She also revealed that, on several occasions, the funds were deposited through ATM cash deposit machines to avoid detection and tracking.
The investigation further uncovered that this gang’s network was not limited to Uttar Pradesh. Active involvement of agents has been found in border districts of Bihar such as Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Purnia, Kishanganj, Champaran, and Supaul. These agents played a crucial role in expanding the network across India.
Following the crackdown by ATS, the district administration intensified its action. A bulldozer was used to demolish Changur Baba’s lavish mansion in Balrampur, which was allegedly constructed illegally. Media reports have referred to it as ‘Changur Baba’s palace’, which now lies razed to the ground.
Neetu, alias Nasreen, has claimed to be a close associate of Changur Baba. She was managing the entire conversion racket, expanding its reach through a network of agents. Her husband, Naveen, is currently absconding, and multiple teams are conducting raids across several states to trace his whereabouts.
