Kolkata: The West Bengal government on Sunday has taken a major step regarding foreign nationals living illegally in the state. The state government has issued instructions to establish special "holding centers" to deport illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya citizens to their countries.

The Suvendu Adhikari government has issued written instructions and guidelines to all district magistrates in West Bengal in this regard. The government has asked all district magistrates to identify suitable locations within their jurisdictions for these holding centers and begin further action as soon as possible.

The administration's focus is on border districts and areas where illegal immigrants are more likely to be hiding.

Infiltrators will be kept in centres until deported

These holding centers, being established by the government, are intended to keep a close watch on illegal immigrants. Illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants apprehended in various parts of the state will be transferred to these centers instead of being held directly in jail.

These apprehended foreign nationals will be kept in these holding centres until the process of verifying their identity and legally sending them back to their native country is completed.

Promise made during election campaign

It's worth noting that during the campaign for the Bengal Assembly elections held this year, the BJP promised to expel illegal immigrants from the state. In one of his addresses, Amit Shah clearly stated that just as the BJP completely eliminated infiltration in Assam, the party would also completely eliminate illegal immigration in Bengal. Now, with the BJP government in the state, the party is working to fulfill that promise.
