National News: With the Bihar Assembly elections drawing near, the political temperature in the state is rising sharply, fueled by fresh disputes over voter verification. Initially, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav was accused of possessing two different EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card) numbers, a charge the BJP used to attack him aggressively. Now, the controversy has taken a new turn, with Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, Vijay Sinha, facing similar allegations.

The RJD claims Vijay Sinha holds two EPIC numbers and has publicly posted both on social media. According to them, one ID is registered in his ancestral village in Lakhisarai, while the other is in Patna’s Bankipur constituency. The Lakhisarai EPIC number is IAF 39393370, whereas the Bankipur card carries the number AFS0853341 with serial number 767.

Tejashwi Yadav’s Charge: “This is an Age Scam”

Speaking to the press, Tejashwi Yadav alleged, “Vijay Kumar Sinha’s name appears in two constituencies with two different ages—57 years in one list and 60 years in another. This is visible on the Election Commission’s official app and also in the voter list distributed to district party presidents. So, either the Election Commission’s SIR (Special Summary Revision) process is fraudulent, or the Deputy Chief Minister is engaged in fraud himself.”

He questioned whether the Election Commission or the district administrations of Patna and Lakhisarai would send a notice to the Deputy CM, adding, “BJP is undermining democracy and the Constitution. The SIR process is deeply flawed, and this case is already in court. We will present our evidence to show how this fraud is happening.”

Tejashwi also accused authorities of deliberately replacing the earlier text-based PDF voter list with an image-based version to make searches more difficult.

Congress Hits Out at Vijay Sinha

The Congress has also joined the attack, alleging that Vijay Sinha submitted SIR forms in both constituencies, resulting in his name being included in the draft rolls for both areas—something they say is against electoral rules and undermines transparency.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the party claimed, “The biggest fraud is Bihar’s Deputy CM Vijay Sinha. He is listed as a voter in both Lakhisarai and Bankipur, Patna, and has submitted SIR forms in both. His name appears in the draft list for each constituency.”

The Congress posed a series of questions:

  • Did he vote in both places during the last election?
  • Was he effectively given two voting rights by the Election Commission?
  • Why did he fill out SIR forms in two constituencies?
  • How did his name end up in both draft lists?
  • When will an FIR be lodged, and when will he resign?
  • Are election rules enforced only against Dalits, the poor, and backward classes, but not BJP leaders?

They further alleged this is part of a larger “BJP–Election Commission nexus” enabling multiple voter registrations for BJP members nationwide. The party claimed that in some places, thousands of votes are cast on a single voter slip, while in others, individuals vote dozens of times.
