National News: Bihar Police have placed the entire state under heightened security ahead of Independence Day on August 15 and the upcoming Janmashtami festival. The move comes in response to security concerns, with orders issued to all district police units to remain on full alert and ensure a peaceful environment during the celebrations.
The Police Headquarters has sent a formal advisory to Inspectors General (IGs), Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), and Superintendents of Police (SPs) across the state. The letter instructs them to take extra precautionary measures, particularly in border districts and sensitive areas where security threats are more likely.
Officers have been told to increase police presence in busy areas, conduct continuous patrolling, and make use of CCTV cameras and drone technology for real-time monitoring. This, according to officials, will help in identifying any unusual movement or suspicious activity before it turns into a security risk.
Given that a large number of people will travel during these events, security has been tightened on trains and at railway stations. Railway Police have been directed to patrol both in uniform and in plain clothes to spot suspicious individuals without alerting them.
All stations, along with bus stands and major traffic intersections, will have an increased deployment of security personnel. Police will also conduct random checks on people and vehicles near these public spots. Sensitive locations in each district have been marked for additional security arrangements.
In addition to public transport hubs, security will be intensified at crowded markets, temples, and popular tourist sites. Places like Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, Mahavir Mandir in Patna, and Takht Sri Patna Sahib Gurdwara have been marked as priority areas for protection. Police teams will remain stationed at these sites to ensure the safety of worshippers and visitors.
The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has been placed on high alert to monitor and respond to any possible extremist activities. Intelligence agencies have been instructed to work closely with local police to share real-time information. Any suspicious activity will be investigated immediately to prevent potential threats.
The police directive clearly warns that negligence in duty will not be tolerated. Officers failing to follow the instructions could face strict disciplinary action.
The goal of these measures is not only to prevent security incidents but also to reassure the public that they can celebrate freely and safely. Large gatherings are expected during both events, making crowd management an important part of the plan.
Coordination between district police, railway security, intelligence units, and special forces will continue until after both events have concluded. With these steps in place, authorities hope Independence Day and Janmashtami will pass without any disturbance, allowing people to take part in the festivities with confidence and peace of mind.
