The Bombay High Court on Tuesday strongly criticised Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange and his supporters for continuing their protest at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, saying they had violated the law. The court ordered that the protesters to vacate ground immediately.

Court Calls Protest Illegal

The judges said the crowd of over 50,000 people was “completely unlawful” and instructed that the area must be vacated by 3 pm to bring life back to normal. The court noted that the protest had disrupted daily activities in the city and caused fear among residents.

Government Questioned on Handling

Calling the situation “very serious,” the bench also held the Maharashtra government responsible, pointing out that it failed to properly manage the protest. The court made it clear that law and order cannot be compromised and asked officials to act quickly to restore peace.
