New Delhi: The central government has released the complete program of the budget session 2026. Under this, the general budget will be presented in the Lok Sabha on 1 February. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the country's annual financial accounts in Parliament at 11 am. Preparations in the government and ministries regarding the budget are in the final stages.
This budget is considered important in many ways. This will be the second full budget of the third term of the Modi government. Last year, the budget was presented in July after the general elections. This time the government is bringing the budget in February as per the normal timetable.
The budget session will start on January 28. On this day the president will address the joint meeting of both houses of Parliament. This address of President Draupadi Murmu is considered the formal beginning of the session.
According to the temporary calendar of the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the House will meet on January 29 also. During this period necessary legislative and procedural work will be done.
The Economic Survey is likely to be presented on January 31. The Economic Survey is tabled in Parliament a day before the Budget. It outlines the country's economic situation, growth rate and challenges. The survey has been prepared under the supervision of Chief Economic Advisor V. Ananth Nageswaran.
This will be Nirmala Sitharaman's ninth consecutive budget. She is the only finance minister of the country to do so. Next year she can equal former Finance Minister Morarji Desai's record of presenting 10 budgets.
The first part of the budget session will end on February 13. After this, Parliament will be on recess. The second phase will start on March 9.
The last day of the budget session has been fixed as April 2. On this day, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will be adjourned indefinitely.
The middle class, industries, and farmers are expected to get relief from this budget. Tax reforms, employment, infrastructure, and inflation control may remain the major issues. This budget will further decide the economic direction of the Narendra Modi government.
The eyes of the entire country are now fixed on February 1, when the country's economic picture and future plans will be revealed in the Parliament.
