New Delhi: The Budget Session of Parliament will begin on January 28 and will continue until April 2. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju shared this information on his social media account.
He wrote that on the recommendation of the Government of India, President Droupadi Murmu has approved the summoning of both Houses of Parliament for the Budget Session of 2026.
The session will commence on January 28, 2026, and conclude on April 2, 2026. The first phase will end on February 13, 2026, and Parliament will reconvene on March 9, 2026. This is a significant step towards meaningful debate and people-centric governance.
After the discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address and the Union Budget, Parliament will adjourn for a break of approximately one month on February 13. Parliament will reconvene on March 9, and the Budget Session will conclude on April 2.
Why is the Budget Session being held in two parts?
The break during the Budget Session allows the Department-Related Standing Committees to examine the demands for grants of various central ministries and departments. The Union Budget 2026 is likely to be presented in Parliament on February 1, a Sunday, while the Economic Survey will be presented on January 20. Both Houses will not meet on January 29 due to the Beating Retreat ceremony.
Speaking to news agency ANI, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who heads the Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology, said that they will submit suggestions related to AI to the government and the report will be presented in the Budget Session of Parliament. Nishikant Dubey told ANI that many countries have formulated rules related to Artificial Intelligence (AI).
“Our committee is also concerned about AI. The Prime Minister has taken a significant initiative. He co-chaired the Global AI Summit. A meeting will be held here. So we have called a meeting before that. We will submit suggestions to the government. Then they will make a decision. We will present the report during the budget session,” he said.
