CBI Charges Twisha Sharma's Husband, Mother-in-Law With Abetment To Suicide: 'Left Her With No Other Option'

Bhopal: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday filed a charge sheet against lawyer Samarth Singh and former district judge Giribala, the husband and mother-in-law of the late actress model Twisha Sharma for allegedly causing her mental cruelty and leaving her with no other way but ending her life, officials said.

What did CBI say?

In the death case of Twisha Sharma, the CBI has filed a charge sheet against Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh. Twisha’s family had accused former district judge Giribala of mental and dowry torture. Twisha who got married to Samarth last December was found dead at her house in Bhopal on May 12.

As per the chargesheet of CBI, Twisha Sharma was subjected to mental cruelty by her husband, Samarth Singh and mother-in-law, Giribala Singh which forced the model-actress to commit suicide, leaving her with no other option “except to end her life.”

What is included in the charge sheet?

The charge sheet has mentioned counselling record, WhatsApp message and statements of witnesses as evidence that has been gathered in the course of investigation.

In the 1,000-page charge sheet filed before special court Judge Shobhana Bhalavi in Bhopal, the CBI has charged former district judge Giribala and her son Samarth with abetment to suicide. However, the agency has left its investigation in regard to dowry demands and dowry death open.

What did official say?

According to the CBI, both accused allegedly subjected Twisha to mental harassment and cruelty, forcing her to take her life. Earlier, the family of Twisha accused her husband and in-laws of mental and physical abuse as well as torture due to dowry.

The family welcomed the chargesheet, claiming that it has detailed evidence in regard to the cruelty faced by Twisha and involvement of both accused.

Lawyers of the victims said additional charges of tampering with evidence and some more names can be added as the investigation will proceed further. Some forensic science lab reports are still awaited.

Where did the incident occur?

Twisha, 33, was found hanged at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12, barely five months after marrying Samarth on December 9, 2025. Twisha was rushed to AIIMS Bhopal by Samarth on the night of May 12, where she was pronounced brought dead.
