CJP protest gets support from lawyers, march from Supreme Court to Jantar Mantar

Lawyers marched from the Supreme Court to Jantar Mantar amid the Cockroach Protest in Delhi. Protesters are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

New Delhi: The Cockroach Protest in Delhi has also received support from Supreme Court lawyers. The protests have intensified demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. On Saturday, the lawyers marched from the Supreme Court towards Jantar Mantar. 

During this, the police detained them on the way. These protesters are protesting against the Election Commission regarding alleged irregularities in the process of Special Intensive Revision of Voter List (SIR). This march is part of a broader movement being carried out by student and youth organizations.

Bar Association appeals to Chief Justice of India

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Bar Association has appealed to Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant to intervene in the matter of the detention of lawyers by the Delhi Police and central forces. The SCBA condemned the excessive use of force and the detention of senior and young lawyers—especially women lawyers—who were peacefully protesting in the Supreme Court area.

Tight security in Delhi ahead of Jantar Mantar protest

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and various student organizations had called for a demonstration at Jantar Mantar on October 10. The protesters' primary demand is the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. However, the Delhi Police denied permission for the planned demonstration, citing late submission of applications and law and order concerns.

According to reports, over 23,000 security personnel were deployed in Delhi in anticipation of the protests. Several areas of the capital were barricaded, and restrictions were imposed on public movement. Restrictions were also announced for metro stations and rail services.

Abhijit Dipke, two other CJP leaders detained in Delhi

Earlier, the CJP said its leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained by the Delhi Police from inside the plane as soon as it landed in the national capital. The CJP leaders had arrived here from Mumbai to join a planned protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
